SUMMARY:Community Sound Bath
DESCRIPTION:What is a Sound Bath? \nA Sound Bath is a deeply-immersive\, full-body listening experience that intentionally uses sound to invite gentle\, yet powerful\, therapeutic and restorative processes to NURTURE YOUR MIND\,BODY\, and SPIRIT. \nWe begin our time together with a few minutes of intention setting\, self reflection\, and guided breath\, while the remainder of the experience is filled with different sounds and frequencies being introduced in succession. The sounds are created by a variety of overtone-emitting instruments including chimes\, gong\, shruti box\, Quartz crystal singing bowls\, and voice. \nWhen you sink into a Sound Bath and guide your awareness to your listening\, you allow your brain waves to slow\, shifting from a more active state to a deeply relaxed\, dreamlike state. This is the art and practice of deep listening. \nThe sounds introduced during a Sound Bath are an invitation into a deeper state of consciousness\, an opportunity to unplug from external stimuli and to gain perspective on what’s going on within you. The goal of the experience is to invite deep rest and relaxation\, and explore self-inquiry and self-discovery. \nMeet Your Facilitator: \nFacilitated by Lauren Smith (RYT500\, 100hr Sound Facilitator). Lauren has hosted many Sound Baths and yoga retreats all over Colorado and beyond. Lauren uses guided breath work and various instruments to help lull you off to a state of deep relaxation. Be guided into a place of deep inner listening through the power of Quartz Crystal chakra bowls\, Wind Gong\, Chimes\, and more! \nWhat to Bring: \nPlease bring a yoga mat\, blanket\, and/or any props you need to feel comfortable (eye masks\, bolster\, cushion\, etc.) Be sure to arrive hydrated and avoid any excess alcohol or caffeine use prior and post Sound Bath. The floors at the Art Lab are concrete\, so doubling up on yoga mats\, or having a thick blanket\, is recommended. I do not provide props at this time\, so please come prepared. \nGetting there: \nThe Art Lab is located in Old Town Fort Collins at 239 Linden St\, Fort Collins\, CO 80524

SUMMARY:Shifting Gears
DESCRIPTION:Shifting Gears is an exhibit presented by the Drawing Material and Methods class at Colorado State University taught by Katie Simmons. Our work aims to question why most art instructors and the “art world” at large insist on labeling art made by undergraduate students as “student art”. Why is art made by students confined to a single category when\, in actuality\, it is as diverse as art made by professionals and instructors? Isn’t the actual problem that many instructors continue to use the same tired assignments year after year? Our artwork eschews the regulatory category of “student art” and embraces the simple idea of art made by human beings. Unbounded by the normal constraints of size\, substrate\, drawing material\, and subject matter\, our work explores who we are\, what we want from our art\, and the ideas we want to share with you. \nPlease join us at the Art Lab on November 13th and 14th from 6:00 to 8:00 for refreshments\, conversation\, brief talks presented by the artists\, and remarks and awards presented by our guest juror. No tickets or purchase necessary\, just bring yourself\, your friends\, and family! Please email Katie Simmons at kts@colostate.edu with questions.
