SUMMARY:Heather Oelklaus | O.P.P.
DESCRIPTION:Heather Oelklaus | O.P.P.\nHeather Oelklaus (b. 1972\, USA) studied Sculpture at The Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI) in the early 90’s. She has exhibited work in solo and group shows in Colorado\, New Orleans\, Oregon\, New York\, Texas\, and Arizona. Heather has an upcoming solo show in Ft. Collins\, CO at The Center for Fine Art Photography in August 2018. She will have work in a group exhibition “Light and Metal: unique prints and photo objects” at photo-eye Gallery in Santa Fe\, NM. Heather currently lives and works in Colorado Springs where she explores unconventional photography and art making. \nIn the series O.P.P. (Other People’s Photography)\, hand-woven silver gelatin and inkjet prints survey stereotypical and nostalgic notions. Found photographs from US Army wives’ gatherings and Hollywood film stills are woven together to reconstruct new narratives.  The simple act of dismantling these midcentury stereotypes in order to reconstruct them in a distorted manner is the driving inspiration for this series. The expressive gaze within these staged photographs breaks through the picture’s surface as if to confront the viewer. These sophisticated slices of history illustrate an era of inclusion and exclusion while leaving the viewer to compare present-day relationships.  Started in 2014\, this ongoing series continues to evolve as the political and social environment changes. \nOpen hours for this exhibition will vary. DESCRIPTION:* SURVIVAL OF THE MOST FLUID * \nTimes of rapid change like ours require flexibility and the ability to adapt. We’ve seen a technological revolution\, economic\, political\, and a vast enrichment of our intellectual and cultural capital. But we also face unprecedented new dilemmas. We are bombarded daily by a constant stream of information\, and thanks to all our devices (smartphones\, laptops\, tablets… etc.)\, we are in ceaseless contact with dozens or even thousands of other people\, rarely if ever enjoying complete downtime. \nOur brains are information-processors and problem-solving machines\, and certainly our analytical skills are crucial to meeting the challenges we face. But even more important is the magic of “elastic thinking”\, which can generate new\, often wild ideas. Some will prove useless\, while others will culminate in innovative solutions required for the problems of modern existence. To succeed\, we need to hone those adopted skills. \nYin Yoga can provide us an opportunity to zone out\, slow down our thoughts and provide answers and solutions to our physical and emotional challenges by a simple and natural process of introspection. \nSometimes the practice of Yin Yoga might result in life changing realisations and can be quite an emotional experience. \nYin Yoga consists in holding a relaxed posture or passive stretch for typically 3-5 minutes\, exerting positive stress on the subtle body tissues\, as a way to trigger the body’s natural repair response leading to stronger and more supple joints. \nYin Yoga addresses in particular the “opening” of the restriction or feelings of “tightness” within our fasciaor connective tissues\, therefore deeply enhancing the space for the muscles and the joints to move freely with\, plus improving calmness of mind\, relaxation and relief from negative feelings of worry and anxiety. \nIn Yin Yoga we enhance and balance Prana/Chi\, our life force\, and when done in a group we have an opportunity to connect our collective energy in a wonderful spirit of community. \nThrough the practice of Yin Yoga\, the body naturally also increases its production of Hyaluronic Acid. \nHyaluronic Acid is associated with youthfulness in our bodies. \nHyaluronic Acid can attract and bind 1000 times its volume of water allowing our joints and tissues to be hydrated\, lubricated\, spring-like\, and more graceful. \nWe look forward to seeing you at our Donation Based 90 min at Art Lab Fort Collins on Wednesday Aug 22nd\, from 6-7:30pm ♥ \n— presented by Balance Point Studio

DESCRIPTION:Experience my journey of transformation to blindness creating art through only touch. Darkness eclipsed my life giving me no hope or purpose. After a recent expedition to Nepal to help the Centre for Disabled Children’s Assistance Orphanage and help inspire others by climbing a 17\,500 foot mountain\, a flame has ignited inside me to follow my dreams. Previously the graphic artist for the Fort Collins Brewery\, I have now started creating metal sculptures signifying a strength and resilience to face adversity and live a No Barriers life. Sculptures and Fort Collins Brewery artwork will be for sale to raise money for No Barriers USA and a future expedition to climb Kilimanjaro keeping with my passion to inspire others that anything is possible. I would greatly appreciate bringing donations of nuts\, bolts\, and other miscellaneous interesting metal to the show for future creations.

But even more important is the magic of “elastic thinking”\, which can generate new\, often wild ideas. Some will prove useless\, while others will culminate in innovative solutions required for the problems of modern existence.
