Layers Of Meaning

Native to Colorado, Jenny Valloric and Liz Sunshine began their foray into fibers at Colorado State University. Jenny began in 2005 after taking classes in merchandising/textiles and deciding the artistic side was more appropriate for her. Jenny’s work began with a focus on traditional textile practices and has lead to the creation of large-scale landscape pieces depicting her personal experiences with in the spaces. Liz became a weaver by accident; by day she is a graphic designer, her loom has provided a higher sense of connection to Judaism. The vast majority of Liz’s work combines her love of typography, Judaism and color. While traditionally tallitot are cream colored with black or silver stripes Liz chose to create vibrant prayer shawls, capturing individuality in prayer.

Prior to putting the tallit on a prayer is recited. The full prayer in both a Hebrew translation and English reads:

Baruch Attah Adonai Elohaynu Melech HaOlam Asher Kidishanu Bimitzsvosav Vitzivanu Lihisatef Bitzitzit.

In English: Blessed are You, Lord Our G-d, Creator of the world, Master of all powers and King of the world, who commanded us to wrap ourselves with Tzitzit.
