The Kinard House Band started with the idea to give students who are proficient in musical instruments that normally do not fit into the traditional band or orchestra provided at Kinard Middle school (ie. guitar, bass, drums, piano. etc.) the same opportunity to showcase their talent that they acquired from years of perseverance with lessons and practice.

The kids auditioned in September and 7 were chosen — they have been practicing together every Tuesday and Thursday (6:30 am – 8 am) as the first ever Kinard House Band under the direction of a talented music instructor, David Parsons.  These kids are playing classic rock songs, working on composing and improv skills on a regular basis.

m the Kindard House Band have to say about this great group:

Our hopes our that our success would be a catalyst to help other talented students at other schools and in the community to create their own House Bands and keep music alive!

This fresh approach to music education for youth is a perfect fit for Art Lab, and we’re thrilled to showcase them at Art Lab the first Friday in February.

“Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind,
flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety t live and to everything.”

Our friends at Kindard couldn’t have said it any better:

It isn’t enough to merely teach the students about music… they need to experience the effects of music themselves by creating quality music together. We will work on creating a structured environment using an uplifting, entertaining and musically fulfilling format, to allow the band to reach their highest potential.
