Saturday was a big day at Art Lab. The kind of day that makes me happy to have started this whole thing…

Jessica Wigent and Clark have filled the walls of Art Lab with the Re-membered Maps Exhibition. And as I spent the afternoon preparing for the evenings activities I witnessed artist walking in with their additions to the project, hang it on the wall, and participate to a poetry and prose reading. We were fortunate enough to hear/see Shawn Huelle reading his piece based on a Mark Rothko painting he saw at the Chicago Art Institute. Made me want to hear more…

After the reading somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 people wandered in to hear the Art Lab Rats in their first 4-piece band performance at Art Lab. This group of four 30-somethings packed the house, got us dancing, and even lead the audience in a rousing sing-along of Springsteen’s version of Santa Clause is Coming to Town…

After that, we had hoped to stick around and see OpenStage etc’s Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol, but tickets were going fast, and we were too late. Drag. Maybe we’ll catch this afternoon’s show?

All in all, a very good weekend at Art Lab.
